Save Extra Cash by Budgeting Your Daily Meal Plan

Eating on a budget can be a challenge. It’s frustrating to turn down a lunch outing with a friend because you can’t afford it. But trust me, you’re not alone. Food is one of the biggest money drainers in our lives, because it’s an item in our budget that we need to survive. Although you can’t cut it out completely to save money, you can save a little up for that occasional splurge by budgeting your daily meal plan.

Plan, purchase and prepare your meals with a budget in mind. Plan your meals by finding easy recipes online. It’s cheaper to make things from scratch than to purchase frozen meals, and you can include meals that will stretch your food dollars, like casseroles. Purchase while you’re not hungry or in a hurry. Prepare your meals with food that’s in season, or meals that will last all week like soups.

Coupons are your friend. They can save you thousands of dollars per year. Coupons are available in books, newspapers and online. It may take some extra time to find good ones, but that time will save you enough money after only a few purchases to go out on that lunch date. Learn more about couponing here.

Take your savings even further and grow your own food. It may seem like more of a challenge, but that challenge will reward you in the end. An entire package of seeds can cost less than a dollar, compare that to what a dollar will buy you in store. If you learn to dry, or can your produce, it can last you even after growing season is over.
