On the Vine at Richmond Farms: The Season of the Pumpkin

“Autumn burned brightly, a running flame through the mountains, a torch flung to the trees.” ~Faith Baldwin, American Family

CTV Channel 11 content producers, Jessica (Whitehead) Bruner and Callie Varra visit On the Vine at Richmond Farms in Fort Collins for some Fall fun. Check out the video story below.

Video Script:

Jessica Whitehead: “The season of pumpkin pie, pumpkin carving and pumpkin spiced lattes is among us.”

Callie Varra: “For all you holiday enthusiasts, it is finally time to indulge in this seasons’ treats. Unfortunately, many farms and pumpkin patches lost produce due to this years’ floods.”

Whitehead: “But lucky for us, On the Vine at Richmond Farms is open for business.”

Bob Miller (Owner and Operator of On the Vine at Richmond Farms): “My wife, Debbie, and I bought this place in 2009, and we started growing about 35 different vegetables and some fruits in 2010. Everybody has their own unique desire for the perfect pumpkin. We try to grow a real large variety.”

Whitehead: “Here’s a good one.”

Miller: “That’s probably one called Howden. And so far the biggest pumpkin we’ve got is 63 pounds.”

Whitehead: “So what do you do with the leftover pumpkins, do you smash them, do you have a party?”

Miller: “Well, last year I think we had about 5 pumpkins leftover. So that was a good year. We send a few to a gal that makes pumpkin dog biscuits, so some of them go there. And most of them go to people just for carving. We grow also a lot of pie pumpkins that are really good for pie.”

Varra: “On the Vine is located off of South Horsetooth and is open every day 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.”

Whitehead: “Come visit Bob to pick out your perfect pumpkin.”
