A Season to FALL in Love With

There are only 89 days, 19 hours and 23 minutes in the fall season of 2016. Basically, there’s no time to waste when it comes to fitting in all of your favorite autumn activities. So, in honor of the 89 days we have this year, here is your laid out, budget friendly plan for the whole season… time to get to it:

 

WEEK 1: September 22 – 30 (Weekly Cost: $10.46)

  • FREE – Celebrate the fact that it’s football season (dig out your jerseys and watch the big game)
  • FREE – Dig out your scarves and sweaters, then have a fall fashion show
  • $0.46 per serving – Make Jessica’s Pumpkin Spiced Chai Delight at home
  • FREE – Get your last few camping trip fixes in

  • FREE – Visit an open air market or farmers’ market
  • FREE – Go for a drive down a dirt road to view the changing leaves
  • FREE – Watch/record your favorite fall shows (Walking Dead, American Horror Story)
  • FREE – Create or join a fantasy football league
  • $10 – Buy your dinner ingredients from a local vegetable stand or fair

WEEK 2: October 1 – 7 (Weekly Cost: $20)

  • $10 – Find some killer deals on Halloween decorations
  • FREE – Decorate your house with the awesome decorations you found
  • FREE – Lay down in the grass and watch the clouds through the autumn tree leaves
  • $5 – Pumpkin picking at a local farm
  • $5 – Go apple picking
  • FREE ADMISSION – Attend Oktoberfest
  • FREE – Carve your pumpkin (If you need help see Jessica’s pumpkin carving for dummies)

WEEK 3: October 8 – 14 (Weekly Cost: $20)

  • FREE -Photography adventure (capture your favorite fall scenery)
  • FREE – Trip to downtown to people watch for fall fashion inspiration
  • FREE – Collect fall leaves and get crafting with them
  • $20 – Make it through a haunted house alive
  • FREE – Go for a hike
  • FREE – Pack up your folding chairs and enjoy the fall scenery by the lake

WEEK 4: October 15 – 21 (Weekly Cost: $12.48)

  • FREE – Make a creepy witch’s caldron with dry ice and spiked punch
  • FREE – Record and watch ABC’s Halloween Marathon
  • FREE – Make some brown bag pumpkins
  • FREE – Gather friends for a game of two-hand touch football
  • $10 – Corn maze

WEEK 5: October 22 – 28 (Weekly Cost: $22)

  • FREEish – Craft your Halloween costume
  • FREE – Make a video of a friend jumping out and scaring strangers in a mask
  • FREEish – Craft another Halloween costume since you know there will be more than one occasion to dress up
  • $15 – Attend your local Zombie Crawl or Halloween Festival
  • $7 – Go on a hayride at a local pumpkin patch or farm

WEEK 6: October 29 – November 4 (Weekly Cost: $15)

  • FREE – Host a Halloween party (BYOB, we’re on a budget people)

  • $10 – Check out a new bar or restaurant hosting a costume themed event
  • $5 – Hand out candy to trick-or-treaters
  • FREE – Attend “No Shave November” if your feeling like a caveman or cavelady
  • FREE – Watch the sunset from somewhere you haven’t been before
  • FREE – First Friday art gallery walk
  • FREE – Bike ride through your city park

WEEK 7: November 5 – 11 (Weekly Cost: $7)

  • $7 – Bake two apple pies (one for you and one for a friend)
  • FREE – Host a game day BBQ potluck
  • FREE – Chores… rake up that pile of leaves… then JUMP in it
  • FREE – Bring a picnic to the park and enjoy the last warm days for a while
  • FREE – Bowl or smash your carved pumpkin that is no longer needed
  • FREE – Go watch your nephew’s, cousin’s or son’s football game
  • FREE – Go on a leaf-crunching walk to the park

WEEK 8: November 12 – 18 (Weekly Cost: $13-$23)

  • FREE – Tailgate your local teams’ football game (buy tickets if you can scrape up the cash)
  • FREE – Go tree climbing
  • FREE – Make a fall leaf wreath out of the dry leaves you collected
  • $3 – Dollar store autumn scented candle shopping
  • FREE – Spend a day by the river watching the last leaves fall
  • $5 – Plant your bulbs for spring flowers

WEEK 9: November 19 – 25 (Weekly Cost: $5-$50)

  • FREE – Make a list of people and things you’re thankful for
  • FREE – Call a family member you haven’t talked to in a while
  • $5-$30 – Prep for Thanksgiving dinner (green bean casserole is never a bad idea)
  • FREE – Watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
  • FREE – Enjoy Thanksgiving in all of it’s glory
  • $1-$20 – Black Friday sales (buy your favorite movies for $1 at Walmart)
  • FREE – Get creative with your leftovers (AKA throw everything onto a roll, top with gravy and call it good)

WEEK 10: November 26 – December 2 (Weekly Cost: $30)

  • FREE – Fall themed family photoshoot to send out for Christmas cards
  • FREE – Go for a nature walk to collect pinecones
  • FREE – Paint your pinecones for a cool table centerpiece
  • FREE – Paint tiny masterpieces on some of the leaves you collected
  • $30 – Wait until Dec. 1 at the earliest, then go Christmas tree shopping
  • FREE – Decorate your Christmas tree
  • FREE – Remember that it’s still technically fall and not winter yet so you can still participate in fall activities

WEEK 11: December 3 – 9 (Weekly Cost: $15)

  • $5 – String popcorn garland
  • FREE – Go stargazing with some heavy blankets and gloves
  • FREE – Donate your unwanted summer clothes to a goodwill
  • $10 – Take a guided ghost or historical tour of your city
  • FREE – Take a hot bath (with the remainder of your dollar store fall candles)
  • FREE – Bust out an old flannel shirt and rock it
  • FREE – Lazy day in with a good book

WEEK 12: December 10 – 16 (Weekly Cost: $15)

  • FREE – Pick 3 fall inspired ingredients at random from your kitchen and have a Chopped style cookoff

  • FREE – Check out a free concert downtown
  • $5 – Roast smores in your backyard

WEEK 13 – December 17 – 20 (Weekly Cost: $16)

  • $3 – Buy a package of apple cider and make “mimosas” with champagne and cider
  • $8 – Make your own caramel apples
  • FREE – Driving tour to see the pretty lights
  • FREE – Light a fire and shed a few tears that this is the last day of fall
